Remove lower door panel (10) from rear-end door (3)

Remove upper door paneling (30) from rear door

Disconnect electrical connector (9) and electrical connectors from license plate illumination (15)

Remove license plate illumination (15)

Pull out contact switch (8) and disconnect electrical connector

 Installation: Check contact switch (8) for proper function, replace if necessary.

Drive out roll pin (20) and pull off locking rod handle (21)

 Installation: Replace roll pin (20).

Unscrew bolt (11) and remove door catch (12) as well as mounting console (13)

 Mounting console (13) is only installed on vehicles with CODE W54 (two-wing rear-end door, 270 degrees).

 Installation: Observe installation position of tapping plate (14).

Check adjustment of door catch (12) in relation to counterpart, see:



Install door catch (12).

Unscrew bolts (7) and remove hinges (6)

Unscrew bolt (5) and remove closing wedge (4)

Drill out rivets (17) and remove closing wedge (16)

 Remove remains of rivets.

Pull off rear door seal (28) and check condition, replace if required

 Installation: Position rear door seal (28) first at top and bottom flush and then push from outside toward inside.

Unscrew bolts (22, 24) and remove rod-type lock (23)

 Fix locking rod (2) in place with suitable tool.

 Installation: The bolt in the rod-type lock (23) must engage in the holes (arrows) in the locking rods (2, 19). Slide one Ø 6 mm O-ring (29) each onto bolt on rod-type lock (23) before installing to prevent rattling.

Remove retaining clip (25)

Pull out locking rod guides (1, 18, 27) and remove locking rods (2, 19) out of rear-end door (3)

 Installation: Ensure that the felt strips (26), used as rattle protection, are glued to the locking rod (2).

Perform additional operation when replacing rear door (3)
