Risk of explosion from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries

No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key

Disconnect transfer case switch electrical connector (S97/5)

Disconnect ambient lighting electrical connector on wooden cover (1)

Remove wooden cover (1)

Remove cup holder (A)

Remove rear compartment center console heating vent (5)

 To do so, carefully release retaining lugs (14).

Remove cover (6) with socket (7)

 Cover (6) is clamped in four places (top right and left, bottom right and left). Disconnect electrical connector at socket (7).

Remove cover (8) in stowage compartment

Disconnect connector (9), pull telephone pre-installation coupling (11), antenna connecting cable (12), and connector (9) out of center console (10)

 Remove retaining clip (13) of antenna connecting cable (12).

Disconnect connectors of cell phone interface contact plate, antenna cables, and info button

 Installation: Insert connectors into center console (10).

Remove center console (10)

 Remove fourteen screws from center console (10).

Install in the reverse order

Read out fault memory and erase



 Stored faults which may be caused by removed cables or by a simulation, must be processed and erased in the fault memories after completing the work.
