Start with  number stamp "Mercedes star" at left end stop.

 Ensure that tool is correctly aligned. The tip of the "Mercedes star" should point upward with the lettering.

Then position  letter stamp "W" with left edge on first graduation line and punch in.

 Move forward one increment on the scale with each subsequent stamping letter until the entire vehicle identification number (VIN) and the final "Mercedes Star" has been stamped.

 The entire width of the VIN is 106 mm (4).
