Remove/install steering gear

Remove

Remove steering column cover (7)

Unscrew cover (8) and detach backwards

Disconnect universal joint (4) from steering gear (1)

Lift/jack up vehicle

Detach hydraulic lines (2, 3) from steering gear (1)

 Collect oil which runs out, all seal openings.

Disconnect drag link (9) from steering gear pitman arm (10)



Disconnect pitman arm (10) from steering gear (1)

Detach steering gear (1) from substructure (arrows)

 Secure steering gear (1) to prevent it from falling down using a suitable hoist.



Install



Replace self-locking nuts and bolts.

Move steering gear (1) into center position

 by halving the total primary shaft revolutions from stop to stop.

The marking on the primary shaft (5) must correlate with the marking on the steering gear (6).

Attach steering gear (1) to substructure (arrows)

 Secure steering gear (1) to prevent it from falling down using a suitable hoist.

Attach steering gear pitman arm (10) to steering gear (1)

Attach universal joint (4) to steering gear (1)

 The marking on the primary shaft (5) must correlate with the marking on the steering gear (6).

The slot on the universal joint (4) must point forwards.

Install hydraulic lines (2, 3) on steering gear (1)

Install drag link (9) at steering gear pitman arm (10)

 Replace cotter pin.

Install cover (8)

Install steering column trim (7)

17

Check power steering oil level and correct
