Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of injury Injuries may result when performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units.

Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Position steering wheel horizontal

 Front wheels in straight ahead position

Remove steering wheel

Remove steering column switch module

Remove left cover below instrument panel

Remove absorber under instrument panel

 Note the installation position of the absorber.

Swivel locking handle (7) forwards (arrow) until it latches in the handle arm (4).

Detach handle arm (4) from carriage (3)

 Carefully pry off handle arm (4) from carriage (3).

Detach clamping lever (2) from slider (3)

 Pull bolt (5) out of slider (3).

Detach locking plates (9) from retaining bolts (6)

 Installation: Replace locking plates (9) (3 in total).

Remove catch (8) from retaining bolt (6)

Install in the reverse order

Read out fault memory and erase if required
