Remove/install steering shaft

Removing

Disconnect ground line from battery

Turn steering to center position and engage ignition lock

Unscrew bolt (1) from universal joint (2)

Torx bit set

Detach universal joint from steering shaft

Remove steering wheel

without airbag

With code SA5 (Driver airbag )

Remove central electric unit

AR54.25-S-1382A

Remove steering column switch

AR54.25-S-2801A

Detach electrical connector A12.2 from electrical center

 Detach vacuum line motor 601

Detach vacuum lines from ignition lock

 Do not mix up vacuum lines

Unscrew nut (4) and bolts (3) from steering shaft

 Replace nut (4) and bolts (3)

Remove steering shaft

Remove steering lock

Install

Install steering lock

 With engine 601, connect the vacuum lines.

Engage steering lock

Push steering shaft through cab floor

 Check it is correctly seated in cab floor

Bolt steering shaft to transverse pipe/instrument panel



Install steering column switch

Install electrical center

Install steering wheel

without airbag

With code SA5 (Driver airbag )

Position universal joint (2) onto steering shaft and tighten bolt (1)

 Push down the universal joint until the hole lines up with the radial groove in the steering shaft.


