Remove/install brake shoes of parking brake

Remove/install

Remove rear wheels



Release parking brake

 Turn back adjusting wheel (a) of adjusting mechanism (33)
using a suitable screwdriver.
Adjustment direction for releasing the brake shoes 

Right side: Turn adjustment wheel (a) from rear to front.

Left side: Turn adjustment wheel (a) from front to rear.

Remove brake discs on rear axle.

Detach return spring (35a) using tool (041)

 Installation: Ensure spring (35a) is correctly seated.



Unhook springs (35c) using tool (040)

 Installation: Ensure springs (35c) are correctly seated.



Remove brake shoes (35) over rear axle shaft flange (3)

 If the brake shoes are scorched, the brake shoes (35) and springs (35a, 35b, 35c) must be replaced.

Check brake shoes (35), replace if necessary.

Detach return spring (35b)

 Coat thread of thrust piece and cylindrical part of adjusting wheel (a) with MB long-term grease.

Remove expansion lock (36)

 Apply light coating of MB long-term grease to all bearing surfaces and sliding surfaces on expansion lock.

Check expansion lock for ease of operation and replace if necessary.
Installation: Install expansion lock (36) so that the moving part (arrow) points upwards.
