1 Attach dial indicator holder (1) with dial indicator (2) to pinion housing.

Position of pinion housing with drive pinion:

The head (with the gearing) of the drive pinion should face downwards.

2 Position preloaded feeler of dial indicator (2) in centering hole on end face of drive pinion gear shaft.

3 Set scale of dial gage to 'zero'.

4 Rotate assembly device by 180 °. The head (with the gearing) of the drive pinion should then face upwards.

5 The value shown on the dial gage is the measured end play (S1) of the drive pinion gear shaft.

6 Determine thickness of shims required:

SH_NEW (mm) = SH_OLD (mm) - S1 (mm) - 0.1 mm

SH_NEW = Thickness of new shim

SH_OLD = Thickness of old shim

S1 = Measured end play

0.1 = Preload displacement
