1 | Determine the measure (A) from the sealing surface of the through-shaft cap (1) the inner support surface of the outer raceway of the tapered roller bearing. |
Use a depth setting vernier caliper and determine the measure (A) of the outer race of the tapered roller bearing (arrow) to the open sealing surface on the passing axle (1). |

2 | Determine the measure (B) from the outer raceway of the tapered roller bearing (2) to the contact surface on the longitudinal differential housing (3). |
W35.30-1150-11
3 | Determine the thickness of compensating washer: |
Thickness of compensating washer = Measure (A) - Measure (B) |
4 | Install the outer race of the tapered roller bearing (2) with the compensating washer determined on the passing axle cap (1). |
Utilize an appropriate mandrel over a workshop press. |
5 | Install the axle cap (1) on the differential housing (3), tighten the screws slightly. |
6 | Install the drive flange (7) and tighten the locking nut (8) to a torque of 200Nm and do not lock. |
7 | Turn the overhead shaft (6) a few times to seat the bearing. |
8 | Support the base of the dial indicator (4) with the dial indicator (5) over the differential housing (3) with a preload and reset. |
9 | Check the axial clearance of the passing axle (6), pressing the drive flange (7) up, using a lever. |
