Adjust gear backlash at ring gear

1

Turn the differential assembly a few times and measure the gap between the teeth of the toothed crown and the pinion in at least three different points displaced by 120 °.

2

Support the base of the dial indicator bracket (11) with the dial indicator (10) on the flat surface of the differential assembly (1) housing.

The dial indicator (10) must be in a vertical position with its probe resting on the flank of one of the toothed crown teeth, with a preload of approximately 2 mm.

B35.31-0021-05

In the measurement, determine the lowest play point between the measured points.

3

Lock the pinion at the point of least play and move the differential assembly in the axial direction acting on the threaded rings with rectangular mandrel until greatest clearance prescribed.

4

Loosen the threaded rings slightly with the quadrangular mandrel for relieving the load on the tapered roller bearings (4) by turning the toothed crown, then press them again.

Press the threaded rings lightly to avoid load on the bearings.
