Remove the differential assembly

Risk of injury caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts

Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

Remove the crown with the differential assembly

Immobilize the coupling flange (3) and remove the nut (1) of the pinion (13)

Remove the coupling flange (3)

Remove the drive pinion (13)

 For the pinion (13) removal, reinstall the nut (1) of the pinion (13) in order to protect the pinion thread (13).
Tap the pinion shaft (13) with the aid of a hammer and a brass billet until it is removed.

Remove the deflector (4), the radial seal (5), the external tapered roller bearing (6) and the outer tapered roller bearing race (7)

Remove the differential housing (8), the external tapered roller bearing (6), the spacer (9), the shims (10) and the inner tapered roller bearing (12)

Remove the outer races of the tapered roller bearings (5, 9) from the differential housing (6)

 Use a hammer and a brass billet.



Check

Check the tapered roller bearings (6, 12) for wear or damage

If necessary:



Replace the tapered roller bearings (6, 12).



Install

Install the inner tapered roller bearing (12) on the pinion (13)

Install the spacer (9), the shims (10) and the inner tapered roller bearing race (11) at the differential housing (8)

Install the outer tapered roller bearing race (7) at the differential housing (8)

 Warning

Risk of injury. Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary.

Install the pinion (13), the outer tapered roller bearing (6) at the differential housing (8)

 To install the tapered roller bearing (6), heat it up to approximately 80°C.

Install the radial seal (5)

 Install a new radial seal (5).

 Apply a sealing agent on the surface of the radial seal (5).

Install the coupling flange (3), the plain washer (2) and the nut (1) of the pinion (13)
