Determine installed dimension of drive pinion gear

B35.30-0127-01

Each set of crown gear and pinion has a measure of dimensional tolerance to ensure the correct contact pattern between gear teeth. Due to this dimensional tolerance during manufacture, installation measurements for the pinion may differ from the basic standard measurements. This deviation is engraved on the oblique face of the crown gear and on the pinion head; it may be positive or negative in relation to the standard basic measurement.

There are:

G = basic measurement

G1= negative measurement

G2= positive measurement

1 Place the gauge with its extension (4) on the adjustment device (3) without fastening it.

2 Fasten the corresponding standard (1) or (2) to the adjustment device (3) and adjust the measuring scale of the gauge to a primary tension of 2 mm.
Determine the standard to be used according to the basic installation measurement for the pinion.
(1) Standard for basic measurement G = 103 mm
(2) Standard for basic measurement G = 106 mm

3 Mount the adjustment device on the differential support housing mounts in such a way that the gauge measuring probe rests at right angles on the front surface of the pinion. Rotate the device radially in both directions to detect the point where the lowest value is indicated on the scale of the gauge.

4 Check the basic measurement and observe the measurement deviation indicated on the crown gear.

Example 1: Deviation from standard basic measurements engraved on crown gear and pinion head -0.20

G1 = 103 mm - 0.20 = 102.80 mm (negative measurement)

Example 2: Deviation engraved on crown gear and pinion head +0.20

G2 = 103 mm + 0.20 =103.20 (positive measurement)
