Remove rear axle shaft

Fit dial gage holder (1) and dial gage (2) onto rear wheel hub (4)



Position tip of dial gage with a preload against the steering knuckle (3)

Inspect wheel bearing play by moving rear wheel hub (4) back and forward

 Inspect wheel bearing play only when outer slotted nut tightened. If the specification is not achieved, release outer slotted nut, slacken and set wheel bearing play by turning the inner slotted nut.

Aim for lower specified value if taper roller bearings are new.

Install rear axle shaft

 Coat contact surface of rear axle shaft at wheel hub with sealant


