Remove and install

Work procedures are related to 6x4 trucks equipped with HD 4 or HD 7 rear shafts. Procedures to remove and install the springs on the central supports are basic and may show some differences due to the specific characteristics of each type of shaft.

The most appropriate place to carry out the tension bars removal and installation work is a service ditch equipped with lifting system.

1

If there is not service ditch available:

Put the vehicle on a flat and leveled place in which it is possible to work safely

Apply shims to the vehicle front wheels to avoid accidental movement.

2

Disconnect the battery negative cable or turn off the general key

Disconnect the battery negative cable releasing its end fastened to the chassis structure. Avoid disconnecting the negative cable end fastened to the battery borne.

Danger!

Take appropriate measures when lifting or lowering the vehicle to avoid accidents.

Risk of serious accident.

Do not raise the vehicle supporting the jack on the rear shaft central case.

3

Lift the vehicle and support it on bearing brackets conveniently placed under the side members, in front and behind the shafts, on both sides of the vehicles, so that it is possible to remove the tension bars.

Observe additional care to lift the vehicle when it is loaded.

The vehicle must not be lifted only from one side, leaving the wheel on the opposite side on the ground. The vehicle should be equally lifted on both sides.

4

On lower tension bars:

Release the self-locking nuts (5) and remove the front and rear fastening screws (4) from the lower tension bars (3) and remove the tension bars

Install: Lubricate threads with a light layer of grease and use new self-locking nuts.

Install: Accommodate the flexible piping and fasten them to the upper tension bars with new plastic clamps (8).

6

On upper tension bars:

Release the self-locking nuts (5) and remove the front and rear fastening screws (4) from the upper tension bars (7) and remove the tension bars

Install: Lubricate threads with a light layer of grease and use new self-locking nuts.
