Remove/install

Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.

Empty compressed-air system completely.

Remove wheels from axle concerned.

 After jacking up, leave the lifting device positioned at the rear axle.

Support vehicle at frame.

Remove left and right anti-lock braking system (ABS) rpm sensor.

Disconnect electrical connector at left and right brakepad wear sensor (3).


Detach and attach the connector in an axial direction only.
The electrical connectors can otherwise be damaged and the brake caliper must be replaced.

Remove compressed-air lines at left and right combination brake cylinder and at interwheel differential lock (6).

Disconnect electrical connector at switch of interwheel differential lock (6).

Disconnect electrical connector at temperature sensor (5).

Detach bleed line from top of rear axle.

Remove compressed-air distributor and all line brackets attached to rear axle and tie up to one side.

Unhook air suspension sensor linkage (7) at left and right from rear axle.

Secure propeller shaft against falling down and remove from rear axle.

Detach both shock absorbers (8) from rear axle.

Remove stabilizer link (12) from bearing brackets (15) at vehicle frame.

Remove wishbone control arm (1) from bearing bracket on rear axle.

Lower rear axle and pull out from under vehicle.

Remove both air suspension supports (10) from rear axle.

Only when replacing rear axle.
