Remove/install

Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.

Empty compressed-air system completely.

Remove wheels from the rear axle.

 After jacking up, leave the lifting device positioned at the rear axle.

Remove left and right anti-lock braking system (ABS) rpm sensors.

Disconnect electrical connector from left and right brakepad wear sensor (3).


Detach and attach the connector in an axial direction only.
The electrical connectors can otherwise be damaged and the brake caliper must be replaced.

Detach compressed-air lines from combination brake cylinders and from interwheel differential lock shift cylinder (6).

Disconnect electrical connector from interwheel differential lock shift cylinder (6).

Detach bleed line from top of rear axle.

Detach compressed-air distributor and all line brackets attached to rear axle and tie up to one side.

Unhook linkage (7) at left and right from rear axle.

Detach propeller shaft from drive flange of rear axle and secure using tensioning straps.

Remove both shock absorbers (8) from air suspension support (10) on rear axle.

Remove stabilizer link (12) from bearing brackets (15) at vehicle frame.

Remove wishbone control arm (1) from bearing bracket on rear axle.

Lower rear axle and pull out from under the vehicle.

Remove both air suspension supports (10) from rear axle.

Only when replacing rear axle.
