Remove/install

Drain oil from rear axle.



Remove wheels from the rear axle.

 After jacking up, leave the lifting device positioned at the rear axle.

Empty compressed-air system completely.

Remove left and right anti-lock braking system (ABS) rpm sensors from rear axle.

 Do not disconnect electrical connector.

Detach plug from interwheel differential lock indicator switch (23).

Detach each of the two compressed-air lines from the left and right combination brake cylinders (13).

Detach compressed-air line for interwheel differential lock from connection (22).

Detach bleed line from connection (21).

Detach propeller shaft from drive flange (1) of rear axle and secure with a tensioning strap to prevent it from falling.

Detach shock absorber (9) and air suspension linkage bracket (12) from left and right air suspension supports (15).

Detach air suspension bellows from left and right air suspension supports (15).

 Bolt, air suspension bellows to rear axle air suspension support

Detach bearing cap (17) from left and right air suspension supports (15) and swing stabilizer link (19) downwards.

Detach left and right air suspension supports (15) from rear axle.

 Installation: Position air suspension support (15) over spring U-bolts (4) so that the pilot bushings on the air suspension support (15) engage in the bores of the axle housing (7).

Remove spring U-bolts (4) and spring plates (5) on left and right of rear axle.

 Installation: The pilot bushings in the spring plate (5) must engage in the bores of the axle housing (7).

Detach wishbone control arm (2) from bearing bracket on rear axle.

 Installation: Replace screws (6) and nuts (3).

Lower rear axle and pull out from under the vehicle.

Install in the reverse order
