Remove/install

Drain oil from rear axle.



Remove wheels from the rear axle.

 After jacking up, leave the lifting device positioned at the rear axle.

Empty compressed-air system completely.

Remove left and right anti-lock braking system (ABS) rpm sensors.

Detach plug (19) from interwheel differential lock indicator switch (14).

Detach each of the two compressed-air lines from the left and right combination brake cylinders (13).

Detach compressed-air line (18) for interwheel differential lock from connection (15).

Detach bleed line from connection (17).

Detach bleed line for rear axle from axle housing (2).

Detach propeller shaft from drive flange (1) of rear axle and secure with a tensioning strap to prevent it from falling.

Detach shock absorbers (10) from bearing brackets (9).

 Nut, shock absorber to bearing bracket

Detach left and right bearing brackets (9) from axle housing (2) and swing downwards together with torsion bar (12).

 Installation: Position the bearing bracket (9) on the spring U-bolts (5) so that the pilot bushings on the bearing bracket (9) engage in the bores of the axle housing (2).

Lower rear axle using lifting device.

 The spring U-bolts (5) and spring seats (4) remain on the leaf springs (6) on the vehicle.

 Installation: Apply light coating of grease to center bolts of leaf springs (6). Lift the rear axle so that the center bolts of the leaf springs (6) are inserted into the mounting bores of the spring supports (3).

Remove spring supports (3) from axle housing (2).

 Installation: Place spring supports (3) on axle housing (2) so that their pilot bushings engage in the bores of the contact surfaces on the axle housing (2).

Pull rear axle out from under the vehicle.

 Installation: Clean and lightly grease contact surfaces of spring supports (3) on axle housing (2).
