 To prevent confusion, label sensors (12) before disconnecting the sensors (12). The sensor (12) cable on the right-hand side is labeled with white tape at the factory.

 Installation: Install sensor (12).

Remove cable tie (arrows) from hand brake cable and expose connecting cable for brake pad wear indicator and if necessary sensor cable up to parking brake relay unit

Detach hand brake cables (4)

After hooking in the hand brake cable (4), the parking brake has to be adjusted:

Remove brake cables at the relay unit

 Compress retaining ring on transfer unit.

Detach both shock absorbers (17) from rear axle

 Installation: Replace nut (14).

 Nut/bolt, shock absorber to rear axle

Detach stabilizer bar (23) from rear axle

Detach lever (5) from rear axle bracket

 Installation: Replace nut (6).

 Nut, actuator rod to ALB lever and rear axle

Disassemble shift cylinder differential lock (9) and strap down

 Do not twist, kink or pull brake hoses.
Leave hydraulic line connected.

 Installation: Install new seal (7).
When reinstalling axle that has been removed, mark position of shift cylinder differential lock (9) in relation to axle and reinstall in this position.

When replacing axle, adjust shift cylinder differential lock (9):



Pull vent line (20) out of frame

 Transfer vent line (20) when installing new axle.

Unscrew propeller shaft (18) from rear axle flange and tie to one side.



Notes on installing propeller shaft

Do not allow drive shaft (18) to hang down.
Otherwise the needle roller bearing in the universal joint will be damaged.

Unscrew both brake calipers (11) and tie to the vehicle with wire.


Do not twist, kink or pull brake hoses.
Otherwise the brake hoses will be damaged.

 Installation: Replace bolts (10).

Move telescopic jack under axle, support axle and secure axle against falling down using tensioning strap on jack



Unscrew nuts (21) on spring brackets (1), remove spring brackets (1) and spring plates (2)

 Installation: After a driving distance of 500 to 1000 km, check spring U-bolts (1) for the specified tightening torque and retighten if necessary.
Replace nuts (21).

Remove rear axle.

 Installation: For all-wheel drive, insert spring pad (3) between rear axle and spring.

Install in the reverse order

Check oil level on rear axle without changing oil, correct if necessary


