Danger! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Danger! | Danger to life from lowering vehicle when working between wheels and body. Risk of injury by pinching or crushing when working on the air suspension. | Do not work between wheels and wheel wells or in wheel box. Only carry out check and adjustment operations from underneath the vehicle. Secure areas with moving vehicle parts against unauthorized access.
Danger! | Risk of injury caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension | Use only approved tensioning devices; shield off hazard area if necessary.
| Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts | All models | |
1 | Bleed brake cylinder (1) | When the parking brake is applied the brake cylinders (1) are operated by spring force and are bled simultaneously.
2 | Bleeding the air suspension system | Ensure that the air spring bellows (13) and reservoir are unpressurized.
3 | Lift/jack up vehicle | Do not remove wheel-engaging lift after lifting the vehicle. The vehicle must be secured on axle stands.
4 | Detach linkage of level control | Perform on both sides.
5 | Remove propeller shaft (4) | Only the steps which are required for the removal of the propeller shaft (4) at the rear axle must be carried out. Tie propeller shaft (4) up to substructure if necessary and secure it against sliding apart.
If the propeller shaft (4) is separated at the sliding piece, the installation positions of the parts must be marked in relation to each other.
Installation: Note marking.
| |||
| |||
6 | Detach compressed air hoses (2) from brake cylinders (1) | All compressed air hoses (2) must be unpressurized. Mark the compressed air hoses (2) in relation to the respective connections at the brake cylinder (1). Seal connections.
Installation: Pay attention to the marking in order to prevent malfunctioning of the brake system.
7 | Detach electrical connector (3) from brake cylinder (1) | Installation: Replace cable ties. Ensure that it cannot chafe.
8 | Detach compressed air hose connecting service brake valve to brake cylinder (1) | Detach compressed air hose of service brake valve from the pipeline attached to the rear axle housing. Seal connections of bolted connection.
9 | Remove shock absorber (7) from air bellows support (5) | Do this by unscrewing the nuts (14). Loosen locknut if necessary.
| |||
| |||
10 | Remove both trailing arms (6)
| |||
| |||
11 | Remove cotter pin (8). | Perform on both sides.
Installation: Replace cotter pin (8).
12 | Remove stabilizer struts (10) | Do this by unscrewing the nuts (9) and removing the stabilizer struts (10) from above. Check all rubber buffers (11) for wear, replace if necessary.
| |||
| |||
13 | Remove both semi-trailing arms
| |||
| |||
14 | Lower rear axle and take out from under the vehicle | Lower rear axle by lowering wheel-engaging lift. Secure rear axle to prevent it from tilting.
Installation: When raising rear axle do not damage the air spring pistons (12) and ensure correct seating in the air spring bellows (13).
15 | Install in the reverse order
16 | Build up operating pressure of compressed-air system
17 | Check compressed-air system for leaks
18 | Check rear axle oil level and correct if necessary
