Danger! | Danger to life from lowering vehicle when working between wheels and body. Risk of injury by pinching or crushing when working on the air suspension. | Do not work between wheel and wheel well or in wheel box. Only carry out check and adjustment operations from underneath the vehicle. Secure areas with moving vehicle parts against unauthorized access.
1 | Switch off ignition and remove ignition key | In order to prevent the vehicle frame being raised or lowered in an uncontrolled manner.
2 | Jack up vehicle frame and secure until the wheels are clear of the ground | Raise vehicle frame approx. 600 mm.
3 | Detach protective caps (4) and empty air spring bellows (1) completely by pressing the pressure pin (arrow) on the test connections (5) of the air chambers (6)
4 | Use assembly lever to pry air spring bellows (1) off the conical plate (2) and the piston (3) | When pry offing off, ensure that no scores occur on the seats of the conical plate (2) and piston (3) which can lead to leakage at the air spring bellows (1).
5 | Fold the air spring bellows (1) together and remove | Installation: Coat raised beads of the air spring bellows (1) with soapy water.
6 | Clean seat of piston (3), check for damage and coat with soapy water | If damaged, replace piston (3).
Detach piston of air spring bellows on air bellows crossmember
| |||
| |||
7 | Clean seat of conical plate (2), check for damage and coat with soapy water | If damaged, replace conical plate (2).
Detach/attach conical plate of air spring bellows
| |||
8 | Install in the reverse order
9 | Apply compressed air to air spring bellows (1) via one of the test connections (5) until the air spring bellows (1) contacts the sealing surfaces of the conical plate (2) and the piston (3) | In order not to damage the air spring bellows (1) apply a maximum of 7 bar to the air spring bellows (1). Fill air spring bellows (1) until the sealing beads contact the sealing surfaces correctly.
