Remove/install rear spring

Remove/install

 Danger!

Risk of death from lowering vehicle when working between wheels and body. Risk of injury from pinching or crushing when working on the air suspension.

Do not work between wheels and wheel wells or in wheel box.

Only perform testing and adjustment operations from below the vehicle.

Secure areas with moving vehicle parts against unauthorized access.

Replace self-locking nuts and bolts

Disconnect linkage of brake force limiter at lower bracket

Drain air in air suspension via the test valve (1)

Unscrew reducing piece (2) on air chamber

With code (CE2) Rear air suspension

 Reducing piece on air spring bellows or air chamber

Disconnect level control linkage (3)

Raise frame at rear

 Raise the frame until the transverse control arm (4) is free of tension.

Take off rear wheels

 Wheel nut

Loosen nut (5) of transverse control arm (4) and remove bolt

 Hexagon head bolt, transverse control arm to spring bellows support/frame mounting console

Raise the frame until the bellows carrier (6) can be moved out to the rear

Secure frame with jack stands

 The vehicle frame may be damaged if the jack stands are not attached correctly.

Position inspection pit lift with transmission plate under the bellows carrier (6)

 Fix bellows carrier (6) in position on the transmission plate using retaining belts.

Unscrew nuts (7) and remove bolts

 Hexagon head bolt, air bellows crossmember to rear spring

 Hexagon bolt with collar, air bellows crossmember to rear spring

Move out bellows carrier (6) to the rear

Unscrew nuts of spring U-bolt (8) and remove spring U-bolt (8)

 Installation: Replace spring lock washers.

 Rear axle spring bracket

Unscrew nut (9) on front spring bracket and remove washer

Rear spring to front spring bracket

Pull rear spring (10) off seat and remove



Checking

Check bushing

 If the bushing is damaged, it must be replaced, see

Remove/install bushes at rear spring and spring shackle
