Remove/install rear spring

Remove/install

Replace self-locking nuts and bolts.

Jack up the rear of the vehicle and secure under the frame with jack stands

The vehicle frame may be damaged if the jack stands are not attached correctly.

Support rear axle with jack

Take off rear wheels

Wheel nut

Disconnect linkage of brake force limiter at lower bracket

Remove bolt for stabilizer bar from stabilizer bar bracket

Nut/bolt, rear stabilizer bar to shackle

Remove upper mounting bolt from shock absorber

Nut, shock absorber to longitudinal frame member

Unscrew nuts (5) on the spring U-bolts (3) and remove lock washers (4)

Installation: Replace lock washers.

Rear axle spring bracket

Lower rear axle slightly

Unscrew nut (12) from the front spring bracket and remove washer (13)

Rear spring to front spring bracket

Unscrew nut (11) from rear spring bracket and remove washer (10)

Spring shackle to rear spring bracket

Pull rear spring (1) off seat and remove

Unscrew nut (6) from the shackle (9), remove bolt (8)

Rear spring to rear spring shackle

Detach shackle (9) and remove spacer tube (7) from the bushing

Checking

Check bushings

If the bushings are damaged, these must be replaced, see

Remove/install bushes at rear spring and spring shackle
