Remove/install

1

Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key from electronic ignition lock control unit

Open spare wheel well cover

Remove spare tire well panel

4

Raise vehicle

Remove rear bumper

Release trailer hitch

Detach black, 22-pin connector (2) from trailer recognition control unit (N28/1)

Detach electrical connection from vehicle interior/trailer hitch (X58/33)

Remove socket wiring harness/release for trailer hitch (1) from control unit carrier

Release rubber grommet (arrow) on rear center section

11

Route socket wiring harness/release for trailer hitch (1) and rubber grommet (arrow) outwards through the opening in the rear center section

Disconnect black 8-pin clutch (20.2) from trailer hitch release (A63)

Detach socket wiring harness/release for trailer hitch (1) from ball neck and from trailer hitch cross member

14

Remove trailer socket (X58)

Install in the reverse order



Check

Perform function check on trailer hitch with electrical release

Perform function test of light signals at trailer hitch socket
