1 Place bearing outer race (1) on tapered roller bearing.
2 Attach tensioning device (6).
3 Turn planet carrier while simultaneously using adjustment screw (2) to fit tapered roller bearing without play.
The tapered roller bearing is without play when the rollers can still be turned easily.

4 Insert dial indicator (3) into measuring device (4) and clamp tight.
5 Place measuring device (4) on bearing outer race and clamp in with tensioning device (arrow).
6 Align measuring device (4) such that probe of dial indicator (3) rests with preload on sealing surface of housing rear section.
7 Measure distance from bearing outer race to sealing surface of housing rear section at two opposing points.
8 If two different values are measured, attach counter stay (5).
Fit the counter stay (5) at the side on which the lowest value was measured, and adjust the threaded rod of the counter stay (5) until both measured values are the same.
9 Set scale of dial indicator (3) to "0".
Observe the position of the small pointer.
10 Detach measuring device (4) with dial indicator (3) from tensioning device (arrow).

11 Position measuring device (4) with dial indicator (3) on sealing surface of housing front section and measure distance to bearing seat using probe of dial indicator (3).
The measured distance must be greater that the "0" position on the dial indicator.
12 Read off measurement difference on dial indicator (3) and note down.
13 Determine thickness of shim.
The correct thickness of the shim must correspond to the measured difference minus the axial play specified in the table.

14 Offset difference to specified axial play using appropriate shims (7).
