Disconnect front axle differential propeller shaft on transfer case (1) at flange

Disconnect transmission propeller shaft on transfer case (1) at flange

Disconnect rear axle propeller shaft on transfer case (1) at flange

 Tie up propeller shaft (5), e.g. using welding wire

Spin the coupling flange (3) by hand and check axial play of bearing

 The bearing must be free of play

If there is play or if there are particles (shavings) in the drained oil, replace the gear set and the bearing in the transfer case: 

 Identify installation position of collar nut relative to rear axle output shaft.
Position oil drain pan under the transfer case
