1 Expansion reservoir
2 Cooling system cap
3 Tester
| Checking | ||
1 | Warm engine up to operating temperature | Coolant temperature approx. 80 °C
2 | Set heating to maximum capacity
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes from scalding from hot coolant which splashes out. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open the cooling system unless the coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and allow the pressure to release. Do not pour coolant into containers for drinks. Wear protective gloves, protective clothes, and eye protection.
3 | Take off cooling system cap (2) | Replace cooling system cap (2) if corrosion present
4 | Inspect coolant level, adjust if necessary
5 | Attach tester (3) to expansion reservoir (1)
6 | Pressurize cooling system | Pressure approx. 1.4 bar
7 | Inspect all pipes and hoses of the cooling and heating system, radiator, coolant pump, coolant pump housing, cap of coolant thermostat, oil-water heat exchanger and cylinder head gasket for loss of coolant. Inspect condition and installation of hose clips, tighten if necessary
