Measure valve setback to cylinder head

1

Place the dial gauge (1) in the dial gauge holder (2)

2

Position the dial gauge (1) with some pre-tension on the flat face of the cylinder head

3

Set comparison clock scale to "0"

4

Move the dial indicator (1) as necessary so that the probe touches the valve plate (3)

If the measurement obtained verified (A) is not within the permitted tolerance, the valve seat or the valve plate (3) must be checked.

The valve plate (3) must touch the valve seat.

Measure valve setback to cylinder head

5

Mount the dial indicator (1) on the dial indicator holder (4) and place it on the upper face of the cylinder head

6

Position the dial indicator (1) with pre-tension on one of the two rod ends of the intake valves (5)

7

Set comparison clock scale to "0"

8

Lift the probe on the dial indicator (1), position the dial indicator (1) on the other end of the inlet valve stem (5) and read the measured values

The permissible difference (C) between the two tips of the intake valve rods (5) cannot be exceeded. If the value read (C) is outside the allowable tolerance, the valve seat or the valve must be checked.
