Remove and install

Remove the cylinder head cover.

Place the first cylinder piston at the injection TDC.

Rotate the engine by its crankshaft (through the engine pulley fastening bolt) in the operating direction (clockwise). Do not rotate the engine by the camshaft nor counterclockwise.

Lock the intake valve camshaft (12).

Insert the locking pin (14) in the intake valve camshaft gear (12) through the hole (A) in the first intake valve camshaft bearing cap.

Remove the front cover (9) on the cylinder head.

Unscrew the actuation piece (13) on the intake valve camshaft (12) and lift off the sliding rail (8).

Remove the high pressure pump (4).

Mark the camshaft gear (5) in relation to the timing chain.

Remove the gear (5) of the exhaust camshaft (11) and lift it out with the timing chain installed.

Should it be necessary, lock the exhaust camshaft with a wrench.

Observe the guide pin (6). After removing the camshaft gear, secure the timing chain against dropping off

Installing: Replace the bolts (7).

Unscrew the bolt (3) on the intermediate gear of the high pressure pump (1).

Lift out the intermediate gear of the high pressure pump (1) with the sliding bushing (2) up, through the opening for the timing gear.

Install in reverse order

Installing: Check the basic position of the camshafts. If necessary
