Remove/install retaining lock for crankshaft/ring gear

Installing, removing

 Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

lead-acid batteries

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves,

clothing and goggles. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Disconnect ground line from battery

Raise vehicle

Remove bottom engine compartment paneling

Remove starter (M1)

Checking

Check serration of the ring gear on the two-mass flywheel

Check for wear and damage, to do so continue rotating the engine at the center bolt of the crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine. If necessary: 

Replace two-mass flywheel.

Insert retaining lock (01) into starter opening and allow it to latch into the ring gear

 If required, continue turning the engine at the center bolt of the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine.


