Auxiliary heater (AHE) diagnosis, previous knowledge
| Do not carry out measurements at contact points or plug connections with unsuitable equipment (test probes, wire ends etc.). Always use appropriate test cables from connection set (201 589 00 99 00). | ||
| Cables, plug connections and fuses are included in the following tests. | ||
| If heater unit is retrofitted and a third party (e.g. drivers, customers) have made alterations / manipulations or non-specialist repairs have been made, the following test program may only be of limited use. The same applies to wiring diagram. | ||
a | On-board voltage 22.5-29.5V (Acid density 1.6kg/dm3)
Troubleshooting | |||
Complaint | Possible cause | Notes | Remedy |
1 Auxiliary heater not functioning with - Ignition: OFF - Heater: ON (button on timer with flame symbol is actuated) | Fuses | No display of heat duration on timer: Pre-set heat duration appears in timer display: | Check fuse F4-A5, if in order: refer to 2 If F4-A5 immediately trips again after being replaced: - Short-circuit to ground on supply cable to plug connection FF8 (under electrical compartment) - Short-circuit to ground on cable (lilac/yellow) from FF8 to console with timer - Replace timer on trial If F4-A5 trips when heater unit switched on after being replaced |
2 No display in timer display with - Ignition: OFF - Heater: ON (button on timer with flame symbol is actuated) - Fuse F4-A5 in order | Open-circuit in timer voltage supply | No display of heat duration takes place: refer to 3 Pre-set heat duration is displayed: Open-circuit in voltage supply terminal 30 on supply cable or in timer
3 No display in timer display with - Ignition: OFF - Heater: ON (button on timer with flame symbol is actuated) - Fuse F4-A5 in order With ignition: ON and sidelight: ON display takes place. | Ground connection Timer | Timer display illuminated: Replace timer on trial. Timer display not illuminated: Inspect ground connection to pillar A. If no fault can be determined, replace timer on trial.
4 Display appears on timer, auxiliary heater not functioning with: - Ignition: OFF - Heater: ON (button on timer with flame symbol is actuated) - Fuses F4-A5, F6-A5, F7-A5 in order | Timer Open-circuit in ground cable to control unit Cable to operating unit (lilac/blue)
5 Fuse F4-A5 trips when auxiliary heater switched on or trips shortly afterwards.
6 - No display in timer display (time) with ignition: ON - Auxiliary heater runs with ignition: ON no longer than programmed time - Auxiliary heater runs for longer than 5 minutes after ignition: OFF. | Check fuse F7-A5 on fuse carrier A5. If in order: If F7-A5 trips again after being changed: - Short-circuit to ground on supply cable (gray) to timer - Short-circuit to ground in timer |
