a Multimeter

b Crankshaft position sensor

c Ferromagnetic metal piece

Test description

This is a function test of the crankshaft position sensor. For this purpose a metal piece is moved close to the position sensor and removed again.

Test connections

1 Connect the Multimeter for measuring the a.c. voltage to the terminals of the crankshaft position sensor.

Carrying out the test

1 Hold the crankshaft position sensor with one hand and with other move a ferromatic metal piece (e.g. a key) in close proximity in quick succession and remove it again as shown in the illustration.

2 Read off the displaay on the Multimeter while the metal piece is moved into close proximity and removed again.
