Ring gear and pinion form a unique set, whose tolerances and finish forbid any individual interchange, so that basic depth adjustment and teeth clearance are sufficient to allow installation.
Nevertheless, an inspection to check the ring gear and pinion assembly tooth markings may be performed.

Inspection to check contact markings
1 Apply “Prussian blue”.onto two bevel gear teeth, offset at 180°.
2 Rotate the pinion back and forth while braking the bevel gear with a piece of hardwood
3 Compare the contact markings with the illustrated contact examples and, if necessary make the corresponding corrections.
Correct contact markings
In practice, no ideal contact markings are obtained. However, it is important that the markings do not reach the outer tooth edges anywhere.

Contact markings at base of teeth (wrong)
Correction:
Increase a little the mounting distance (basic measure) of the pinion and, at the same time, diminish a little the mounting distance of the bevel gear, i.e., to make the bevel gear teeth get deeper into the pinion teeth to conserve the correct backlash between the teeth flanks.
B35.30-0087-01
Contact markings at top of teeth (wrong)
Correction:
Reduce a little the mounting distance (basic measure) of the pinion and, at the same time, increase a little the mounting distance of the bevel gear, i.e., to make the bevel gear teeth do not get too deep into the pinion teeth to conserve the correct backlash between the teeth flanks.
