1 Manually turn the input and main shafts while simultaneously applying light strikes to rear part of gearbox with a plastic/rubber head hammer.
2 Place two fastening shims (2) on the outer race of the bearing (1) and beat slightly on the race while the shim's fastening bolts are being tightened. The outer race should not present any play.
The bearing will have no clearance when the rollers still can move with some difficulty.
3 Measure with the dial gauge (3) assembled on the support (4) of the outer race of the tapered roller bearing (1) until the separation surface of the gearbox in two opposite points and calculate the average value = dimension A .

4 Place the current compensating washer (6). Measure, with the dial gauge (3) mounted on holder (4), from the separation surface of bearing cap (5) to the compensating washer (6) = measure B.
Measure B will have to be smaller than measure A in a value equivalent to the adjusting measure (pre-load) prescribed for the bearing.
Should there be differences, install a compensating washer (6) duly calculated.
