1 Manually turn the input shaft and main shaft and at the same time apply light blows on the gearbox rear part with a plastic hammer.
2 Place two fastening blocks (1) on the outside race of the bearing (5) and lightly strike on the race while the block fastening bolts are tightened. The outside race must not present any play.
The bearing will be without play when the rollers can still be moved with some difficulty.
3 With the dial gage (2) assembled on the holder (3) measure from the outside race of the taper roller bearing (5) to the gearbox separation surface in two opposite points and calculate the mean value = measurement A .

4 Place the current compensating washer (6). With the dial gage (2) assembled on the holder (3), measure from the separation surface of the bearing (7) cover to the compensating washer (6) = measurement B.
The measurement B will have to be smaller than the measurement A in a value equivalent to the adjusting measurement (pre-load) prescribed for the bearing.
5 If there are differences, install a duly calculated compensating washer (6).
