 For authorized Mercedes­Benz service partners, only the entry in the "Extended VEGA Application" (EVA) system, in the "Current" tab is decisive. An additional test of the affected vehicles in the workshop information system (WIS) or vehicle list is thereby not necessary.

Check whether control lever (4) for accelerator and brake pedal is installed in vehicle.

 The result of the test absolutely must be documented in written form on the workshop order and filed in a tamperproof manner.

If control lever (4) for accelerator and brake pedal is not installed,



the vehicle is not affected by the measure and can be handed over to the customer.

If control lever (4) for accelerator and brake pedal is installed,



continue with next operation step.

Preparation

Shorten accelerator pedal connection (12) for accelerator pedal linkage (8) on new control lever (4) up to fourth bore, as shown.

 Remove hatched area (arrow) on accelerator pedal connection (12) using a suitable tool.

Round off and deburr edges on accelerator pedal connection (12).

 Use a suitable tool.

Repair surface of accelerator pedal connection (12) in working area using a suitable touch-up paint pen.

 

Remove/install

Unhook ball head of brake linkage (1) from driver (2).

Loosen counternut (3) and remove brake linkage (1) from joint eye of control lever (4).

 Removal: Mark installation position of counternut (3) on control lever (4).

 Installation: Observe previously marked installation position of counternut (3) on control lever (4).

Unscrew screws (5) and remove cover (6) from control lever (4).

 Screw, control lever cover to basic holder spacer (Easy Speed)

Remove locking clip (7) and unhook accelerator pedal linkage (8) from control lever (4).

 Note installation position of accelerator pedal linkage (8) on old control lever (4) for installation of new control lever (4).

Remove nuts (9).

 Screw/bolt/nut, operating lever to bracket (Easy Speed)

Unscrew screws (10) and remove control lever (4) from vehicle.

 Screw/bolt/nut, operating lever to bracket (Easy Speed)

Check component parts of control lever (4) for accelerator and brake pedal for wear and damage.



Check and lubricate control lever for accelerator and brake pedal

If any control lever component parts (4) are worn or damaged,



replace control lever component parts (4).

Install new control lever (4).

 Installation: Transfer required component parts from removed control lever (4) to new control lever (4).

 Installation: Note installation position of brake linkage (1) and accelerator pedal linkage (8) on old control lever (4) for installation on new control lever (4).

Install in the reverse order.



Check distance (a).

Distance of control lever (Easy Speed) to ignition lock

If distance (a) is incorrect,



adjust distance (a) on brake linkage (1).

Check adjustment of brake linkage (1) and accelerator pedal linkage (8).


All components must be able to move without obstruction and must not come into contact with other component parts.
Otherwise, correct operation of the control lever (4) is not guaranteed.


The brake and accelerator pedals must not be in operation without the influence of the control lever (4).
Otherwise, correct operation of the control lever (4) is not guaranteed.


Increased idle speed must not be present.
Otherwise, correct operation of the control lever (4) is not guaranteed.


The brake lamp must not light up when it is not actuated.
Otherwise, correct operation of the control lever (4) is not guaranteed.


The complete brake and accelerator pedal travel must be achieved via the control lever (4).
Otherwise, correct operation of the control lever (4) is not guaranteed.


The kickdown function must be given.
Otherwise, correct operation of the control lever (4) is not guaranteed.

If adjustment is incorrect,



adjust the brake linkage (1) and accelerator pedal linkage (8) accordingly.
