Dismantling
-------------------------------
Note
The power steering pump must not be clamped on the pump housing, clamping is only possible at the two fixing flanges (arrows) or the support (20).
1 Unscrew bolts (19), remove washers (18), cover (17) and sealing ring (16).
2 Unscrew hexagon bolts (3), remove bearing cap (5) with drive shaft.
3 Remove sealing rings (6, 7).
4 Remove end plate (13), inner cam insert (11) and pins (8).
5 Remove snap ring (12).
6 Detach rotor (9) with pump vane from the drive shaft.
7 Remove pump vane (10) from the rotor (9).
Note
- Check pump vane (10) for scores and wear, primarily on the rounded contact surface (arrow).
- Check rotor (9) for wear in the guide slots.
8 Withdraw drive shaft (1) from bearing housing.
9 Remove sealing ring (2) from bearing housing.
10 Remove sealing rings (14) from the pump housing.
11 Remove pressure and flow control valve (arrow) (46.1 - 4223).
Assembly
-------------------------------
Note
- Prior to assembly, all bores in the pump housing must be blown out with compressed air. Clean all parts, lightly coat with oil and replace all sealing rings.
- Check all parts for visible wear and evidence of shrinkage.
- Only replace inner cam insert, rotor and pump vane together in the event of wear and scuffing points.
- Check drive shaft for evidence of shrinkage of sealing ring, replace both parts together if required.
- Check drive shaft for play in the plain bearing (bearing cap).
1 Install pressure and flow control valve
(arrow) (46.1 - 4223).
2 Press new sealing ring (2) into the pump housing up to the stop using a suitable alignment tool.
Note
Pack sealing ring (2) between the sealing and dust lips with high-melting point grease.
3 Push in drive shaft (1).
4 Push rotor (9) onto the drive shaft and secure with a new snap ring (12).
5 Chamfer on inner diameter (arrow) of rotor (9) must point towards the drive side.
6 Push in pins (8).
7 Install inner cam insert (11) over the pins (8).
Note
In the case of the inner cam insert (11), the marking (arrow) must point towards the end plate.
8 Install pump vane (10) with rounded surfaces towards inner cam insert (11).
9 Install end plate (18) over the pins (8).
10 Install new sealing rings (14) in the pump housing.
11 Install new sealing rings (6, 7) in the bearing cap.
12 Assemble bearing cap (5) with pump housing, tighten hexagon bolts (3) with washers, 26 - 30 Nm.
13 Install new sealing ring (16) in pump housing.
14 Tighten cap (17) with the bolts (19) and washers (18), 7 - 9 Nm.
15 Turn drive shaft and ensure easy smooth operation.
16 Install power steering pump (46.1 - 4000).
