Location
The front lamp units are located on the outer left and right of the front end.
Task
The front lamp units are used to output the following light functions:
Position light, standing lights
Side marker light (Canada version or USA version)
Daytime running lamps
Low beam
High beam
Turn signal lamp
Variable light distribution (dynamic LED headlamps)
The light sources are actuated as follows depending on the headlamp variant:
Halogen headlamps
Depending on the vehicle, the light sources are actuated by the central control unit or by the front central control unit.
Static LED headlamp
The light sources are actuated by the headlamp control unit.
Dynamic LED headlamp
The low beams and automatic high beams on model 167, 177 are actuated by the LED matrix control unit. All other light sources are actuated by the headlamp control unit. On vehicles from the model 247 market launch onwards, all light sources are actuated by the headlamp control unit.
Actuator motors are integrated into the front lamp units for headlamp range control. The light cones of the low beam and high beam are lowered or raised by the headlamp range control.
In order to protect the LED headlamps from overheating during operation, fan motors are integrated and are switched on when there is a danger of overheating. The temperature in the areas of the actuated LEDs is registered by integrated temperature sensors.
