Task
The electronic ignition lock control unit, in combination with the transmitter key, is the central control unit of the drive authorization system.
Likewise, the electronic ignition lock control unit serves as a communications interface between the transmitter key and the networking.
The electronic ignition lock control unit has the following tasks:
Reading in input factors:
Input factors are read in via the interior CAN (CAN 2).
Output of signals:
The output of the signals takes place at the interior CAN and via a direct line to the advanced signal acquisition and actuation module control unit (ASAM) (A7).

Transmission and reception of low-frequency signals, function
The transmission of the transmitter key takes place via the antenna (W25) (low-frequency). The key transmits encrypted data (a hash code). The key communicates with the electronic ignition lock control unit via the antenna amplifier (N2) (high frequency).
For "ignition ON," the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) and the transmission control unit (TCM) (A5) request the electronic ignition lock control unit regarding the encrypted data (the hash code) independently of each other.
The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the encrypted data to the engine management control unit and to the transmission control unit. If the data matches, the engine start or gear selection is enabled.
