Performing normalization
If the front or rear tilting/sliding roof switch (N70s6) button, integrated into the overhead control panel control unit (N70) is switched to the "Front tilting/sliding roof" position, close rear tilting/sliding roof (SR [SHD]) (M12/1) with rear sliding roof switch (S13/1) until the mechanical stop (closed position) is reached and continue to actuate the rear sliding roof switch (S13/1). If the front or rear tilting/sliding roof switch (N70s6) button, integrated into the overhead control panel control unit (N70) is switched to the "Rear sliding roof" position, close rear sliding roof (N70s1) with rear SR [SHD] switch (M12/1) until the mechanical stop (closed position) is reached and continue to actuate the rear sliding roof switch (N70s1).

The rear sliding roof control unit (SDE-H) (N70/1) continues to actuate the rear SR [SHD] motor (M12/1m1) and sets the location counter to "0", if it recognizes a blockage of the rear SR [SHD] motor (M12/1m1) for min. t = 0.5 s. However, normalization is only performed if no Hall sensor pulses are recognized by the rear tilting/sliding roof control unit (SR [SHD]-R) (N70/1) during this time. Moreover, rear Hall sensor (SR [SHD]) (M12/1b1) and rear Hall sensor (SR [SHD]) (M12/1b2) must recognize at least 3 edges before reaching the mechanical stop (closed position):
Normalization must be performed whenever denormalization has taken place.

Normalization is not possible with the "Panoramic roof convenience opening" functions, if they are activated by the AC control unit (S98) and "Automatic closing". These functions are not possible in the denormalized state.
If the normalization is successful, the rear tilting/sliding roof control unit (SR [SHD]-R) (N70/1) can switch off the rear SR [SHD] motor (M12/1m1) with the "Panoramic roof convenience opening", "Panoramic roof convenience closing", "Close panoramic roof automatically" and "Open panoramic roof automatically" of the rear tilting/sliding roof (SR [SHD]) (M12/1) before reaching the mechanical stop (closed position).

Renormalization
Function requirements:
Rear tilting/sliding roof (SR [SHD]) (M12/1) normalized
No overvoltage or undervoltage
Renormalization is performed automatically, if the rear tilting/sliding roof (SR [SHD]) (M12/1) is moved to the mechanical stop (closing position) for t = 0.5 s.
Overvoltage is present when voltage > 16.5 V. Undervoltage is present when voltage < 9 V.
Renormalization compensates mechanical tolerances and malfunctions. Normalization is accomplished only each 10th time the mechanical stop (closed position) is reached to protect rear tilting/sliding roof (SR [SHD]) (M12/1) mechanism.

To prevent variations in the brightness of the lamps renormalization is not performed if the following lamps are switched on:
Left front handle interior lamp (E15/6), with code (LD5) additional interior lamp in passenger compartment
Right front handle interior lamp (E15/7), with code (LD5) additional interior lamp in passenger compartment
Left rear handle interior lamp (E15/8), with code (LD5) additional interior lamp in passenger compartment
Right rear handle interior lamp (E15/9), with code (LD5) additional interior lamp in passenger compartment
Left front reading lamp (N70e2), with code (LD0) Overhead control panel control unit with reading lamp for driver and passenger
Right front reading lamp (N70e3), with code (LD0) Overhead control panel control unit with reading lamp for driver and passenger
Front dome lamp (N70e1), with code (LD0) overhead control panel control unit with reading lamp for driver and passenger
Renormalization is not performed on the "Comfort panoramic roof closing" function.
