Location

The central operating unit (COU) control unit is on the center console.

Tasks

The central operating unit (COU) control unit is the central control for the telematics functions. The central operating unit (COU) control unit can be used to operate the functions shown on the Audio/COMAND display control unit (A40/8). To this end, the central operating unit (COU) control unit fulfills the following tasks:

 Receiving signals

 Sending signals

Receiving signals

The central operating unit (COU) control unit receives the following signals:

 Circuit 30g and circuit 31 over a direct line

 Operation signals from the left lower control panel (LCPL) control unit (A40/1) (with code G42 (7G-TRONIC PLUS), with code T55 (Electrical actuation for right sliding door) or with code T56 (Electrical actuation for left sliding door)) and from the right lower control panel (LCPR) control unit (A40/2) via telephone keypad LIN (LIN A2)

 Control signals from the upper control panel (UCP) control unit (N72/2) via the telephone keypad LIN

 CAN messages via the telematics CAN (CAN A), e. g. actuation of the display elements in the UCP by the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6)

Sending signals

The central operating unit (COU) control unit sends the following signals:

 Its own control signals as well as control signals from the UCP control unit, LCPL control unit and LCPR control unit via the telematics CAN to the radio (Audio/COMAND)

 Circuit 30g and circuit 31 to the LCPL control unit and LCPR control unit

 Actuation of the display elements in the UCP control unit via the telephone keypad LIN
