Inlet check valve, location

The inlet check valve (1) is located in the oil gallery of the retarder housing (2) between the oil reservoir and the working chamber.

Inlet check valve, task

If the oil sump of the retarder is pressurized, the inlet check valve (1) opens and the oil flows into the working chamber. If the pressure in the working chamber increases, the inlet check valve (1) closes to prevent the oil from flowing back into the oil reservoir.
