Profile ventilation, location

The profile ventilation (1), consisting of valve element (5), float (3) and float cage (2), is located in the upper half of the retarder housing (7) below the cover (6) of the profile ventilation (1).

Profile ventilation, task

A connection to the atmosphere is created through the opened profile ventilation (1) to allow the retarder oil to flow out of the working chamber after the retarder brake is applied.

Profile ventilation, function

At the beginning of the braking operation, the air in the working chamber is displaced out of the retarder by the rising oil level through the profile ventilation (1). When the working circuit is bled, the float (3) rises in the float cage (2) and seals off the valve element (5).
