The exhaust gas recirculation system is in operation 100 seconds after engine start irrespective of the engine temperature.

The operating points of the exhaust gas recirculation system are dependent on the position of the adjusting cam (8e) at the injection pump (accelerator pedal position), which operate the two-stage microswitch (S70), and on the engine speed.
