Function
The DFI control module (N3/8) determines the position of the fuel metering actuator (Y23/3k1) on the basis of the stored map data and the actual values of the signals. The fuel metering actuator moves the control slide (11/25) axially by rotating the actuator shaft (11/27) and opens the pressure relief drilling (11/23c) earlier or later. The quantity injected is determined by the position of the control slide. The rotary angle and thus the position of the control slide are signalled back to the DFI control module by the fuel rack position sensor (Y23/3l1).
a "Retarded" direction (full throttle) or greater quantity
b "Advanced" direction (zero delivery) or reduced quantity
Small quantity injected
As a result of the axial adjustment of the control slide (11/25) in direction "b", the pressure relief drilling (11/23c) of the distributor plunger (11/23) is opened "early" and the residual stroke of the distributor plunger proceeds pressureless.
Large quantity injected
As a result of the axial adjustment of the control slide (11/25) in direction "a", the pressure relief drilling (11/23c) of the distributor plunger (11/23) is opened "late" and almost the entire stroke of the distributor plunger proceeds as "delivery stroke".
