Function

The high accuracy of the start of injection is assured by a control loop. The needle motion sensor (L9) in this case detects the actual start of injection directly at the injection nozzle of cylinder 2 and passes a signal to the DFI control module (N3/8). This module compares the actual start of injection with the start of injection map. A difference results in the actuation for the injection timing solenoid valve (Y60) of the start of injection controller being altered.

The start of injection adjusting plunger (11/10) is held in the off position by the pretensioned start of injection spring (11/10a) (fig. A).

During operation (figure B), the injection timing solenoid valve (Y60) modulates the adjusting pressure applied to the start-of-injection adjusting plunger. The axial plunger movement is passed on to the rotatable roller ring (11/24) via sliding block (a) and pin (b), thereby lifting the rotating lift disk (11/22) by means of the rollers (11/24a) of the roller ring at an earlier time.
