Starting, general points
The fuse and relay module (SRM) control unit (N50) takes over the actuation and shutoff of the starter (M1) and of the fuel pump with fuel delivery module (M3/3).
For starting, the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/34) reads in signals from the following assembly parts:
Intake camshaft position sensor (B6/15)
Coolant temperature sensor (B11/17)
Crankshaft Hall sensor (B70/2)
Starter relay (N50k1)
Fuel pump relay (N50k8)
Ignition lock switch (S2)
Clutch pedal switch (S40/3)
Hot film mass air flow sensor (B2/8)
Accelerator pedal module (B37/4)
Throttle valve actuator (M16/6) (throttle valve position)
Knock sensor (A16)
Instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A1/1) via the central gateway (CGW) (N93) and user interface CAN (CAN HMI)
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/34) actuates the following assembly parts to start the engine:
Ignition coils (T1)
Fuel injectors (Y62)
When the vehicle is started, the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/34) coordinates the injection and firing order based on the signals from the crankshaft Hall sensor (B70/2) and the intake camshaft position sensor (B6/15).
The starter relay (N50k1) takes over the actuation and cutting out of the starter (M1).
Function sequence for start
Turning the ignition key in the ignition lock switch (S2) to "Engine start" causes the ignition lock switch (S2) to send the signal "Terminal 50" to the fuse and relay module (SRM) control unit (N50). The fuse and relay module (SRM) control unit (N50) checks the following function requirements:
Selector lever in position P or N (automatic transmission)
Clutch pedal switch (S40/3) operated (manual transmission)
If the function requirements are met, the integrated starter relay (N50k1), and with it the starter (M1), will be actuated, as will the fuel pump relay (N50k8).
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/34) determines the start signal status based on the engine speed and battery voltage signals.
Function sequence for start end
The start procedure is interrupted via the Safety Relay Module (SRM) control unit (N50). The starting procedure can only be aborted by switching off the ignition.
