Position | Installed in the fuel injection nozzle of cylinder 2.
Task | Detecting start of injection during pressure buildup or opening of nozzle. Passing the signal to the DFI control module (N3/8).
Function | During fuel injection at a pump angle of approx. 6° + 2°, the injection pressure raises the nozzle needle approx. 0.26 mm. An extension of the thrust pin (51/2) plunges into the coil (51/15) when the nozzle needle is opened. The thrust pin together with the setting pin (51/13) form an annular gap above the coil. When the needle is raised, this overlap length (x) changes and thus induces a signal voltage in the coil, which is passed on to the DFI control module. During the lifting motion, the DFI control module constantly checks the position of the nozzle needle and of the needle motion sensor and conducts a correction of the commencement of injection.
