Possible dangers
Danger of burns and scalding
While the engine is running and also after its shutdown, the AdBlue pipes, and all the components attached to them, are under pressure and can be heated up. There is a risk of burns. When detaching pipes, there is a risk of scalding by splashes of heated-up AdBlue.
Risks of injuries
In the case of AdBlue contact, there is the risk of eye and skin irritation
Risk of poisoning
There is a risk of poisoning by AdBlue if it is swallowed.
Procedures
On vehicles fitted with electric supply pump, after every engine stop the AdBlue in the pipe will return to the AdBlue tank.
On vehicles fitted with compressed air system, after engine shutdown, compressed air will be still flowing through the pipes. For this reason, the job on the exhaust gas after treatment system should not be started after at least 5 min. are elapsed after engine shutdown.
Slowly open the connections of the pipes and components of the system. When detaching them, suitably seal their ends.
Only catch AdBlue in appropriate containers. Do not pour AdBlue into beverage containers.
In the case of leakage, immediately wipe the AdBlue, as there will be risk of slipping.
Protection measures when handling removed parts and when working underneath the vehicle
Utilize adequate protective gloves
Wear protective clothes
Use safety glasses
Measures of first aid
Contact with the skin wash the affected skin areas with abundant clean water. Quickly change wet clothes.
Contact with the eyes in case of contact with the eyes, wash immediately with plenty of clean and clear water, if necessary, seek an ophthalmologist.
Ingestion: wash the mouth with clean water and drink plenty of water . See a doctor without delay.
Fire fighting measures
AdBlue is not flammable. In case of fire, NH³ (ammonia) can be released, which may be a risk of poisoning.
Therefore, the fire fighting measures are to be in accordance to the environment condition.
