Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key or KEYLESS-GO start/stop button from electronic ignition lock control unit

 KEYLESS-GO start/stop button only on vehicles with code (889) Keyless-Go.

Remove bolts (5)

Unclip boot (2) from cover (3).

Set selector lever in position "N" or gearshift lever to neutral position

 Depending on vehicle configuration.

Open cover (4)

Unclip cover (3) in front area at top and lift until electrical connector on automatic transmission mode button (S16/12) is accessible.

 Installation: Check cover mechanism (4) for proper function, if necessary loosen threaded connection of center console (1) and tighten center console (1) without tension.

Disconnect electrical connector from automatic transmission mode button (S16/12) and remove cover (3)

Remove rubber insert (6) or ashtray insert

On vehicles with code (279) Electronic drive selection stage

 Depending on vehicle configuration.

Remove ashtray housing or front stowage compartment

On vehicles without code (279) Electronic drive selection stage

Unscrew bolt (7)

Remove rear ashtray or stowage compartment

 Removal of the stowage compartment corresponds to removal of the rear ashtray.

Unscrew nuts (9)

Fold up cover (8) toward rear and disconnect electrical connectors from center console (X29/6)

Slide back foam rubber jacketing and disconnect electrical connectors from mobile telephone (X39/37)

On vehicles with code (386) Comfort telephony

Remove center console (1) from vehicle

 Installation: Guide wiring harnesses on automatic air conditioning control and operating unit (N22/7) through opening in center console (1).

After positioning center console (1) on cover (4) check for proper function, if applicable, slide center console (1) toward rear again and move disturbing wiring harnesses to side.

Install in the reverse order
